[Updated dates] CILE Professor Lectures on the Beginning of Human Life in London (23-24 September 2017)

[Updated Dates]

The UK-based Center for Islam and Medicine (CIM) organizes the Bioethics & Islam Masterclasses which spans during the period April 2017 - February 2018.  This is an interdisciplinary program of learning and engagement where a team of experts explores faith-based ethical perspectives on how to think about and navigate biomedical advances and their practical, moral and spiritual implications.

CILE Professor of Islam and Biomedical Ethics, Dr. Mohammed Ghaly, will participate in the second Masterclass of the Bioethics & Islam Series, which will take place on September 23, 2017 in London. This Masterclass focuses on the ethical questions related to the advancing biomedical technologies and how they are revolutionizing therapeutic and research possibilities at the beginning of life. Some of the key questions to be addressed include: When does human life begin? What is the status of the embryo? When is an embryo granted the status of a person? How long should embryos be kept alive for research?

Besides the Masterclass, Dr. Ghaly will also participate in the Beginning of Life Research Workshop, which will take place on September 24, 2017, which is also organized by the Center for Islam and Medicine (CIM).
