
Sheikh Chauki Lazhar; Deputy Director of the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) at the University of Hamad Bin Khalifa and Dr Fethi Ahmed, Research Coordinator at CILE, have participated in the training program for new Qatari Diplomats which was jointly organized by the Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DCID) Qatar and the Institute of Diplomacy. The program was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday, May 27th, 2014 from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Mr Chauki Lazhar delivered a lecture entitled "Islamic Presence in Europe: Challenges and Prospects". He addressed a number of important issues such as the nature of the Muslim presence in Europe, segments of European Muslims and their generations, the stand of the European governments and people on Islam and Muslims and the internal and external challenges facing the Muslim presence in Europe.
The lecture by Dr. Fethi Ahmed was entitled " Western Culture and Values".
In his lecture, Dr Ahmed has addressed a number of important topics by addressing the following questions: What is meant by Western Culture and Values? What are the origins of Western culture and values? Who are the most influential thinkers in Western culture? What are the most common values among Westerners? What are the techniques and skills in dealing with Westerners? Then he concluded the lecture with a set of recommendations and tips. The attendees of the training program included some officials representing the organizers in addition to approximately twenty-five (25) new diplomats. The participants have interacted positively with the lectures, presentations and material provided.
