The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of College of Islamic Studies (CIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University, cordially invites you to the upcoming public lecture titled:
The Ethical question of the Quranic Stories
It will be held on January 27th, 2020 from 7 to 9 pm in the auditorium at the College of Islamic Studies building.
The proportion of the narratives in the Qurʾan amounts to a quarter of it. They consist of accounts of Prophets, Messengers, sages, historical or mythical persona of ancient times. Their binary oppositional form puts the listener/reader in a state of ethical or theological decision or choice concerning his or her own status. This lecture aims at scrutinizing the moral implications of the Quranic narratives in its relation to the earlier traditions and in the Islamic culture.
Speakers:
- Devin Stewart, Professor of Islamic studies and Arabic language and literature (Emory University)
- Mohammad Fadel, Professor of Islamic Law (University of Toronto)
- Zahra Moballegh, Assistant Professor of philosophy (University of Tehran)
- Fatih Ermis, Research Associate (Orient-Institut Beirut)
