The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of College of Islamic Studies (CIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University, cordially invites you to its upcoming public lecture entitled:
Religious Scholar and Political Ruler: ethical responsibility towards the state and society
This event will be held on October 25th, 2017 from 7 to 9 pm in the Cinema of Students Center, Education City.
The following questions will be raised and discussed by Dr. Mutaz al-Khatib, assistant professor of methodology and ethics:
- What is the role of religious scholars in the contemporary state and how should they behave within its structures?
- How should they position themselves in the face of political power structures and the people, while representing religious authority?
- What are the resources that they draw upon to issue their fatwas?
- What motivates some muftis and preachers to be involved in repressive and sometimes violent political struggles?
