The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of College of Islamic Studies (CIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University, cordially invites you to its upcoming public lecture entitled:
What is Maslaha (Benefit/Interest) & Who Decides?
This event will be held on November 19th, 2017 from 7 to 9 pm in the Cinema of Students Center, Education City.
During the lecture, Maslaha (lit. benefit/interest) will be discussed through religio-ethical perspectives and the following questions will be addressed by the panelists:
- How can we define what “best interest” is, whether for the public or for an individual?
- Does Maslaha mean different things to different people who invoke it?
- Which methodologies do they employ and what roles do Scripture, human intellect and moral values play in the reasoning process?
- How does Islamic discourse on this topic relate to parallel discussions in other traditions and philosophies?
