The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) is pleased to share the video and pictures of its recent lecture on “Fatwa during times of revolutions: The will of the Lawgiver versus the self-interest of the Mufti”. The lecture was organized on 21st May, 2014, at the premises of Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies in Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
The lecture addressed some issues brought about by the Arab Spring concerning the position of jurists toward the political conflict and their relation with the ruling authority and the public.
Dr Muetaz Al-Khatib, Assistant Professor of Islam, Methodology and Ethics at CILE, raised some questions about the jurist’s approaches and ethics toward the public affairs in light of the changing circumstances of authority in the national modern state. He investigated fatwas related to revolutions in five Arab countries, namely Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen and Syria.
